| These beautiful antique wooden bowls originate from the nomadic tribes of Senegal and Niger in Sub Saharan Africa. The bowls are carved from aged hardwood, with the finer bowls decorated in ornate geometric patterns. Traditionally these bowls are handed down from mother to daughter and when broken are repaired for further use.
Wooden bowls are used to gather milk from their livestock. The goat and cows milk is a staple of their diet , served with Millet or other grains. The milk also provides a source of income for the women who travel to nearby farming villages or markets to barter and trade their milk for cloth, grain, tea, sugar and other necessities. |
